Suzuka is a charming city that was once known for its silk-reeling industry. The city has preserved many of its traditional shops and homes, which are reminiscent of the prosperity that was enjoyed years ago. Other structures include old trading houses and pristine gardens walled off in traditional design are reminiscent of the wealthy merchant families who once prospered here.
These days, vine cultivation centered on the Shine muscat takes advantage of the local climate, which is ideal for cultivating fruit that require long daylight hours, little rainfall, and just the temperature difference between night and day.
There are several well-known wine producers in Japan such as the Obuse Winery and the Kusunoki Winery. These local wineries are famous for their production of incredibly delicious grape in Nagano Prefecture.
In addition to Suzaka, there are several hot spring towns, beautiful autumn landscapes, and pristine natural parks that can be enjoyed in the Matsukawa Gorge. The town of Obuse features the Hokusai Museum, which features the world-famous artwork of Katsushika Hokusai. Suzaka is at the crossroads of nature tourism, local food and drink specialties, and hot spring resorts that draw in visitors from all over the country.
